I Have to Say It… Who Dat?

Drew BreesJust a blurb here, but I just finished watching Super Bowl XLIV and that was a great game. It was a lot closer than the final score of 31-17 made it appear and it was great watching the New Orleans Saints keep their heads up and after the Colts jumped out to an early 10-0 lead. The Colts simply dominated the first quarter and it looked as though they might be unstoppable. But Brees and his guys stuck together and turned things around in the second quarter. They didn’t score any touchdowns, but they started moving the ball. Kicker Garret Hartley was superb when he was needed and then Brees and his offense started doing what they do.

Sean Payton was gutsy throughout the game. It didn’t always work out, but when they recovered that onside kick, I think any doubters realized the Saints could win the game. Yahoo’s NFL blogger over at The Shutdown Corner is eating his words right now after posting a hast first-half blog about Sean Payton’s vanity. (more…)

Cyber Monday?

Americans have a new reason to ramp up their massive consumerism! Cyber Monday has arrived! Ok, so the term has existed for a few years now, but I’m hearing it for the first time. Cyber Monday is the day when supposedly online sales peak. So we are encouraged to celebrate by buying more! Now I’m not opposed to online retailers using the term as an excuse to offer great discounts and sell things at a cheaper price. I support any excuse to discount items. What I hate is how Cyber Monday is presented to us all as the day when we’re supposed to buy things online. And it’s done in a “didn’t you know this already?” fashion. (more…)

Sounds More Like a Michael Vick Fan

A man took his girlfriend’s pit bull puppy for a walk Sunday, minutes before the Steeler’s game was to begin. Unfortunately for the puppy this man,William Woodson, of Bridgeville, was a Steelers fan. The dog was “uncooperative” on this walk prompting the man to hurry things along by kicking it down the road. (more…)

Documentary Round-Up

I’ve been on a bit of a documentary kick lately. I’ve already talked about I.O.U.S.A. and I just finished Maxed Out, which takes on personal debt and the credit card companies as opposed to the national debt. Just like I.O.U.S.A. it serves as a wake-up call for financial responsibility. I first had this wake-up call after attending a Dave Ramsey, Financial Peace class about a year ago and I can’t stress enough how important is for the individual to maintain financial responsibility. Debt is crushing people out there so I suggest you take control before it comes down on you. (more…)

Just Give Vince Young the Damn Ball

It’s time to give Vince Young another chance

Everywhere you look around the NFL you see over paid young QBs holding on to their jobs just because they’re supposed to be the face of the franchise. It doesn’t make sense to me, but I don’t see it changing anytime soon. Somehow Vince Young isn’t benefiting from that same illogic.

People forget that he’s 18-11 as a starter and led his team to the playoffs as a rookie. And, I mean, what’s a QB Rating anyway? (more…)

VY till I die

Ed. Note: This is a cross-post from my UT Sports blog Hash Marks.

Boy, is VY having a tough time of it. I’ll admit, when I heard he left the season opener with an injury, part of me hoped it would keep him out a few weeks so he could take a deep breath and reset. Little did I know a media manifested mental meltdown was in the works. But sure enough, next thing you know Jeff Fisher is calling the cops to hunt him down and a crisis negotiator tags along just in case.
Now speculation is rampant. Is he losing it? Does he want to play football? Is he a coddled mamma’s boy?
I know media members have to speculate to some degree. Columnists wouldn’t be worth their salt if they don’t offer insight, ideas and possibilities. But when you’re coming out with theories on the mental health of an individual, you’re moving on to some shaky ground. (more…)

I Would Feel Used

One day after signing a one year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs kicker Jay Feely was cut. He was brought in to compete for a roster spot with Connor Barth and Nick Novak and when they performed better than he did during a two day “kick off” Feely was cut. I get the impression that Kansas City just wanted to see how Barth and Novak would react to the pressure. Otherwise why would they not even give Feely a chance to get acclimated before making a final decision on his future with the team? (more…)

Good Move For Vick?

As soon as 2009 Michael Vick might find himself in a football uniform and playing professional football. Team? Unknown. League? Most likely not the NFL. Another new football league is on it’s way in. This one, the United Football League touts itself as home to the “stars of tomorrow”. I thought college football was the home of those guys, but what do I know? I guess I don’t keep up with the Vick situation that much because I didn’t think there was even an outside shot of Vick playing in the NFL in 2009.
