Taking Back Sunday – Self-titled – 1st Impressions

Tell All Your Friends! If you are a Taking Back Sunday fan you are where you want to be. You’re gonna wanna turn the new CD up louder now, because the line-up is new again.
New, except that it’s not. Taking Back Sunday, traditionally my favorite band, (though I’ve really gone a different direction lately in musical tastes) has brought back the original line-up from the Tell All Your Friends CD, which is just awesome. Ok, all the excitement from the fact that it’s the original line-up aside, let’s actually listen to self-titled album. (more…)

Aubrey Huff Knows How to Offend a City (old news)

I mentioned Aubrey Huff quite awhile back in regards to the Oh Say Can You Sing CD he was featured on along with Matt Ginter, Ben Broussard, Scott Linebrink, Coco Crisp, Jimmy Rollins, Omar Vizquel, Jeff Conine, Sean Casey, and Kelly Wunsch.

Well his song was spoofed after he called Baltimore a “horseshit city”on Sirius Radio’s Bubba the Love Sponge show and I know I’m in no way breaking ground here, but I figured since I had video for his version I should put up the video of the spoof. It’s pretty funny, but watch out for language. After the break.

Oh Say Can You Sing?

I just got my “Oh Say Can You Sing?” CD. It was released in 2005 apparently, but I just now heard of it. All of the recordings feature vocals by current Major Leaguers, plus one by Ozzie Smith. It’s a very cool concept, but several of the songs just sound like someone recorded karaoke. But the guys who play their own instruments (Matt Ginter, Ben Broussard, Scott Linebrink) more than make up for the karaoke sound. The CD also includes Coco Crisp and Jimmy Rollins who perform their own original rap songs. Omar Vizquel, whose accent… Well I feel mean but it’s funny. More importantly it’s endearing. That’s not a knock on Omar. The list is rounded out by Jeff Conine, Sean Casey, Kelly Wunsch and Aubrey Huff. (more…)

Brand New – Daisy – 1st Impressions

Brand New is probably my all-time favorite band. Their only competition if from Taking Back Sunday and their last CD was pretty watered down. When I first heard The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me I wasn’t too blown away. I didn’t even go out and buy the CD. Then I went to their show. It was amazing and I regretted not being more familiar with their new stuff. After that show I listened to Brand New for probably 6 weeks straight. Fast forward a few years and out comes Daisy. Standing Up For A Capella

Men’s A Capella groups are an easy target for ridicule. Take Ed Helm’s character from The Office, Andy Bernard for instance. He’s just a ridiculous guy all around and to make matter’s worse he’s a former member of the fictional Cornell A Capella group Here Comes Treble. It’s easy to laugh lose even more respect for Bernard for his participation in such a group. But when you take the time to actually look into college A Capella groups around North America, I think you’ll be pretty impressed. They seem to have a self-deprecating sense of humor about what they do which legitimizes them for me. Besides that there are some groups which are very talented. Then there are other groups that are less talented, but still entertaining. (more…)

Bo Fo Sho

Let me introduce you to Bo Burnham. If you know who he is then I guess I can’t really do that. But you probably do not. Bo is a hilarious singer/songwriter who finds wordplay to be child’s play. I discovered him for myself on Break.com. His user page has most of his songs. But he just released an EP called Bo Fo Sho on iTunes and some of the songs can only be found there.

The Places I Have Come To Love The Most

Since graduating and moving home I have not had much of anything going on. The Internet has given me something to keep my mind off the mind numbing boring routine that has become my life, and in addition to that, I got a gym membership and I go job hunting from time to time. But let’s face it. These days if you walk into a place and inquire about a job they tell you “You need to apply online.” No one wants human to human interaction anymore if it can possibly be avoided. So basically I’m on the Internet when I’m job hunting as well as when I’m sitting around doing nothing. All that to say, I’m always on the Internet and I’m going to share with you the sites that I frequent most often.
