On The Bright Side…

I am a Red’s fan. Ryan is a Giants fan. We obviously want those two teams to win the World Series. If not the Reds then I hope the Giants win. If not the Giants he better hope the Reds win. If neither of these teams win, well someone else will. And of course on one level that will suck. But more than a Reds fan, I’m a baseball fan and here are some positives that would come from each of the other teams winning it all.

I’m putting these in the order I’d like them to win (following of course the Reds and Giants.)

Jacque is Bacque

Jacque Jones spent the first 7 seasons of his Major League career in Minnesota with the Twins. Now he will possibly finish his career there. Or maybe his career will gets it’s second-wind and he will be around a few more years.

My first thought was to say that he doesn’t have much of a shot to make the big league roster this year. He hasn’t played since last year’s spring training, when he hit .089 for the Reds. .089… Ouch. (Granted, that was with only 45 ABs.) Then I noticed who he’ll be competing with (more…)

2010 Consolidated List of Non-roster Invitees

Below you’ll find a comprehensive list of the 2010 MLB Spring Training Non-roster invitees for all Major League teams, as of February 8, 2010. This information is easy to obtain, but not as easy to compile and format, into one master list so I ask that if you want to take the entire list for whatever purpose you at least cite your source. I’ll cite mine. MLB.com To make things more interesting I also add links to unofficial team blogs for each of the Major League baseball teams and on some players I added links to random blogs pertaining to the player. Happy Birthday Joe Nathan!

After 10 seasons Joe Nathan of the Minnesota Twins has emerged as one of the best and most consistent closers in baseball. He’s posted sub-2 ERAs in three of the past four years (2.10 in 2009) and four of the last six. He has amassed 247 saves and 4 All-Star game appearances, yet he rarely gets the credit he really deserves. (more…)

Win and You’re (tw)In

This blog is called Monozygotic. On that note, I feel like I must talk the Minnesota Twins. On Tuesday they face the Detroit Tigers in a tiebreaker game for the AL Central spot in the playoffs. Over the last 20 games the Twins have won 16 including 4 wins against the Tigers leaving both teams with records of 86-76.

I personally am rooting for the Twins to pull off this come-from-behind run. Sure the fact that they caught the Tigers and forced this playoff is remarkable in itself. But it will be quickly forgotten if they don’t win Tuesday’s game. Their late season run is not the only reason why I’m hoping they win. The fact that they’re called the “Twins” has absolutely nothing to do with I want them to win.

The reason I want them to win comes down to one player. One Twin who didn’t even throw a pitch this season. (more…)

Chase Utley Keeps It Real

If you missed the beginning of the Home Run Derby then you missed a special moment. Chase Utley unexpectedly heard boos when he was introduced, and he seemed genuinely surprised. His response was caught on camera for all to see and hear. And his response was classic and heartfelt.

“Boo?” He said, probably to himself just as much as anyone else. “Fuck you.” Now that’s genuine. I don’t blame the guy at all. I respect him more for it. It just makes him so relatable. The Home Run Derby at least actually means something to him. That’s a nice change of pace from the guys like A-Rod.
