February 2010 Link Round-up; Highlights and Lowlights

On March 1st I take my ASVAB as I begin the road to Army OCS. But before I can do that I have to post the February 2010 link dump and the military had some news that will be making this list. For starters…

An unmanned Blackhawk Helicopter is in the works
. The only drawback is this assures there will be no sequel to Black Hawk Down. <Yahoo!>

I finally saw The Hurt Lockerand I thought it was great (though I’d love to hear from actual EOD personnel). Surprisingly those brilliant people who give it out major movie awards have acknowledged it’s greatness. Will the academy? <Yahoo!>

Crime does pay, and it pays very well (in Canada). <CBC>

Sports + Charity + Wine?!?! Count Me In.

I am by no means a wine connoisseur, much less a sommelier (you can probably slap anyone who says they are) but I like wine and know a little bit about it and more importantly wine intrigues me. It has an intangible quality that can’t be found in other alcoholic beverages. Having a nice wine with dinner can be one of the classiest ways to enjoy alcohol. Playing slap-the-bag in a hot tub with a bag of Franzia White Zinfandel can be one of the trashiest ways to enjoy wine (albeit arguably more fun). So wine covers that whole spectrum. There’s hardly a classy way to drink beer, nor a trashy way to drink a vodka martini. (more…)

Hope From The Next Generation

Not every kid is in his bedroom on his computer, playing videogames or God forbid, doing whatever people do with Magic cards or Pokemon cards (Ok, so once I visited my cousin and we played Magic with his deck and that was a pretty fun game). Don’t believe me? Let me tell you about Oliver Wahlstrom. He’s 9 years old and plays on a hockey team for 12 year olds. That would be enough for me to believe he’s good. But after I saw this video it appears to me that “good” is an understatement.
