Washington Admits Drug Use… News?

Someone is in denial. A guy plays baseball in the 70s and 80s and then in 2010 it’s news that he used amphetamines and marijuana during his playing career?!

His press conference photo looked exactly like a mugshot. Don't you think?

Even this MLB.com article knows enough to say “But the use of amphetamines or “greenies” was widespread throughout baseball going back to at least the 1960’s and most likely well before that.” Everyone used them. They may slightly enhance a players performance, but they should in no way be grouped with tradition PEDs like steroids and HGH. Not only that but they weren’t banned at the time. That being said, marijuana is illegal now and was illegal then. But… Let’s get real. Punishing a guy for smoking a little pot in the 70s just doesn’t make sense to me. (more…)

Robin Yount Corked?

I for one won’t pass any sort of judgement based on this one piece of evidence suggesting Yount was a “cheater”. For one, even though they have very good reason to believe the bat was used by Yount extensively, it’s still not like they took the bat right out of his hands and caught him red-handed. I don’t know much about the process of corking a bat, but theoretically couldn’t it have been done after he retired the bat? I’m not saying I think that’s the case either. I’m just saying their are too many possibilities to brand Yount a cheater. (more…)
