We’ve all seen videos of comedians recycling jokes. Or maybe you haven’t. But here’s your chance. First we have Letterman’s Top Ten Thoughts that went through Mark Buerhle’s head while throwing a perfect game. Then we have Letterman’s Top Ten Thoughts that went through Dallas Braden’s head while throwing a perfect game

(How do they not use material from the game and actually mention DeWayne Wise?)
Ok, I hope you were paying attention.

February 2010 Link Round-up; Highlights and Lowlights

On March 1st I take my ASVAB as I begin the road to Army OCS. But before I can do that I have to post the February 2010 link dump and the military had some news that will be making this list. For starters…

An unmanned Blackhawk Helicopter is in the works
. The only drawback is this assures there will be no sequel to Black Hawk Down. <Yahoo!>

I finally saw The Hurt Lockerand I thought it was great (though I’d love to hear from actual EOD personnel). Surprisingly those brilliant people who give it out major movie awards have acknowledged it’s greatness. Will the academy? <Yahoo!>

Crime does pay, and it pays very well (in Canada). <CBC>

Ever wonder what a baseball player’s fan mail looks like? Scroll down to February 25th on Pat Neshek’s blog. (more…)

Tony Kornheiser Suspended For Doing What He’s Paid To Do

Tony Kornheiser was suspended because of these comments about ESPN’s Hannah Storm.
Hannah Storm, Tony Kornheiser, ESPN, SportsCenter

“She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body … I know she’s very good, and I’m not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won’t … but Hannah Storm … come on now! Stop! What are you doing? … She’s what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point.”

Uhh, that sounds exactly like the Tony Kornheiser that I love watching on Pardon the Interruption. He and Michael Wilbon, make the show great by ragging on people and by going overboard with it. (more…)

Leverage Lost Me

Ok, to be honest Leverage, the TNT drama, never had me. I had never seen a show and the premise looked ridiculous. As wikipedia simplifies it

“Leverage follows a five-person team of thieves, computer experts and con artists, headed up by former insurance investigator Nate Ford, who use their skills to right corporate and governmental injustices inflicted on common citizens.”

Pretty stupid right? Of course the do-gooders often (from what I can tell) seem to run afoul of the law (of course it’s always justifiable) but they always outsmart the blundering law enforcement officials. That annoys me, but maybe it has to do with my background in law enforcement. But if that wasn’t arrogant enough they decided to disgrace the game of baseball in season 2, episode 14. It’s the only episode I’ve ever watched or will ever watch and I failed to finish it. (more…)

Wes Sims Does Not Look Like A Professional Fighter (Before, During or After the Fight)

Wes Sims could destroy me in a fight. He’d destroy me with one hand tied behind his back. That out of the way, Wes Sims is the worst looking professional MMA fighter I’ve ever seen in my life as a casual fan. From his body to his technique the man just looks awful. This video is from the Strikeforce: Miami event the other night.

Oh Say Can You Sing?

I just got my “Oh Say Can You Sing?” CD. It was released in 2005 apparently, but I just now heard of it. All of the recordings feature vocals by current Major Leaguers, plus one by Ozzie Smith. It’s a very cool concept, but several of the songs just sound like someone recorded karaoke. But the guys who play their own instruments (Matt Ginter, Ben Broussard, Scott Linebrink) more than make up for the karaoke sound. The CD also includes Coco Crisp and Jimmy Rollins who perform their own original rap songs. Omar Vizquel, whose accent… Well I feel mean but it’s funny. More importantly it’s endearing. That’s not a knock on Omar. The list is rounded out by Jeff Conine, Sean Casey, Kelly Wunsch and Aubrey Huff. (more…)

Spoiler! But Not an Avatar Spoiler!

I’ve seen the movie Avatar, and I really liked it. Therefore as I was reading an article about alleged “racism” in Avatar, I wasn’t concerned when it warned of spoilers ahead. But they did make a move to spoil a movie for me. Not Avatar of course. But District 9. They made no mention of District 9 spoilers. And then all of the sudden I read this: (more…)

Brittany Murphy Dead at 32

From King of the Hill to Sin City, Happy Feet to 8 Mile Brittany Murphy displayed her wide-ranging acting and voice talents. She could play a ridiculous and dense character or a despondent and brooding character while being thoroughly convincing in either role. She could be sexy or she could be laughable. Through it all she always struck me as a real, down-to-earth person. Granted I never met her, but if a Hollywood starlet can give off that impression from her platform then she is doing something right and something different. (more…)

Chris Ballard Takes On Sports Fans

Today I checked my mail and saw a Sports Illustrated with Alabama’s Colin Peek on the cover (Dec 14, 2009). As I normally do, I turned to the Point After column on the back page. Chris Ballard wrote this weeks piece, entitled “So Much Raging Bull”. He started it off with a paragraph about Tiger Woods in which he called B.S. on all those he say they weren’t curious about the Woods saga which has him cheating on his wife with maybe three different women. Blah. At first I found that boring and a waste of space for Point After. But then he used it as a segue to call B.S. on a number of other segments of sports fans. This part I loved. First up? Red Sox Nation! (more…)

Fore! get About Facts

The TMZ story alleging that Elin Nordegren was attacking husband, Tiger Woods apparently is more convincing to some people than the citation for careless driving. While it does stand to reason that he could have been attacked while driving carelessly, you’d think that if that was the case they would have let him off the hook for driving carelessly. But whether or not that happened, I think it’s now obvious that it won’t go down as the official story. (more…)
