Worst Knock-off Commercial Ever

Ok the viral video series for advertising concept is already old. Garnier Fructis is trying to do their own version, and of course it’s in the fashion of instructing men how to be more manly men. This is from Garnier Fructis… Who the hell needs to be told by them how to be a man? But wait. It gets worse. Much worse. Not only is the general concept overdone and unoriginal, but they specifically copied another “man tip” from another commercial. How to get a ride home from a bar.

Here’s the original one

You remember that right? It’s not that old. It might even be playing still.
The knock-off after the jump. (more…)

On The Bright Side…

I am a Red’s fan. Ryan is a Giants fan. We obviously want those two teams to win the World Series. If not the Reds then I hope the Giants win. If not the Giants he better hope the Reds win. If neither of these teams win, well someone else will. And of course on one level that will suck. But more than a Reds fan, I’m a baseball fan and here are some positives that would come from each of the other teams winning it all.

I’m putting these in the order I’d like them to win (following of course the Reds and Giants.)

February 2010 Link Round-up; Highlights and Lowlights

On March 1st I take my ASVAB as I begin the road to Army OCS. But before I can do that I have to post the February 2010 link dump and the military had some news that will be making this list. For starters…

An unmanned Blackhawk Helicopter is in the works
. The only drawback is this assures there will be no sequel to Black Hawk Down. <Yahoo!>

I finally saw The Hurt Lockerand I thought it was great (though I’d love to hear from actual EOD personnel). Surprisingly those brilliant people who give it out major movie awards have acknowledged it’s greatness. Will the academy? <Yahoo!>

Crime does pay, and it pays very well (in Canada). <CBC>

Ever wonder what a baseball player’s fan mail looks like? Scroll down to February 25th on Pat Neshek’s blog. (more…)

Breaking Down the Comparisons Between Lindsey Vonn and Michael Phelps

Lindsey VonnTake a second and Google “Vonn the Next Phelps” (without the quotations). I did, and I got 73,400 hits! Granted many of those aren’t discussing whether or not Lindsey Vonn is the next Michael Phelps. But the whole first page is with Yahoo! and NBC among those chiming in. Let’s get one thing straight. Vonn is not, can not, and will not be the next Michael Phelps. I’ll breakdown why that is after the break. (more…)

January 2010 Link Round-up; Highlights and Lowlights

Well due to the success of my 2009 link round-up I decided to make it a monthly think. So again, this link dump will feature content created in January 2010 and some older content which I just happened to come across this month.

The case against 5 former Blackwater guards was dropped after it was horribly mishandled by the prosecuting team. And I do mean horribly. <The Wall Street Journal>

The Mets were weird when they were good. <The Big Lead>

Avatar almost had to raise their MPAA rating. What I am a talking about? Why a deleted Na’avi sex scene involving those tentacles of theirs. <Filmdrunk> (more…)

Wes Sims Does Not Look Like A Professional Fighter (Before, During or After the Fight)

Wes Sims could destroy me in a fight. He’d destroy me with one hand tied behind his back. That out of the way, Wes Sims is the worst looking professional MMA fighter I’ve ever seen in my life as a casual fan. From his body to his technique the man just looks awful. This video is from the Strikeforce: Miami event the other night.

The Naked and the Undead

I just recently watched Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction and I noticed a theme. They always find a way to have star, Milla Jovovich, naked, weak and vulnerable. It doesn’t matter that her character, Alice is out of Umbrella’s hands at the beginning of Extinction. We get to see a clone. What does that say about the filmmakers? What does that say about the Resident Evil audiences? And most importantly, will we get such a visual in Resident Evil: Afterlife? Afterlife comes out sometime this year, which is perfectly timed for my recent Resident Evil kick.

Spoiler! But Not an Avatar Spoiler!

I’ve seen the movie Avatar, and I really liked it. Therefore as I was reading an article about alleged “racism” in Avatar, I wasn’t concerned when it warned of spoilers ahead. But they did make a move to spoil a movie for me. Not Avatar of course. But District 9. They made no mention of District 9 spoilers. And then all of the sudden I read this: (more…)

Music Used To “Torture” At Gitmo

I just watched a story on abc.com news about US jailers at Guantanamo Bay using music to torture the detainees there. Apparently there is quite an outrage with a long list of musicians stepping forward to demand the declassification of all materials in regard to this matter. Musicians like (more…)

Brittany Murphy Dead at 32

From King of the Hill to Sin City, Happy Feet to 8 Mile Brittany Murphy displayed her wide-ranging acting and voice talents. She could play a ridiculous and dense character or a despondent and brooding character while being thoroughly convincing in either role. She could be sexy or she could be laughable. Through it all she always struck me as a real, down-to-earth person. Granted I never met her, but if a Hollywood starlet can give off that impression from her platform then she is doing something right and something different. (more…)
