January 2010 Link Round-up; Highlights and Lowlights

Well due to the success of my 2009 link round-up I decided to make it a monthly think. So again, this link dump will feature content created in January 2010 and some older content which I just happened to come across this month.

The case against 5 former Blackwater guards was dropped after it was horribly mishandled by the prosecuting team. And I do mean horribly. <The Wall Street Journal>

The Mets were weird when they were good. <The Big Lead>

Avatar almost had to raise their MPAA rating. What I am a talking about? Why a deleted Na’avi sex scene involving those tentacles of theirs. <Filmdrunk>

John Nolan, formerly of Taking Back Sunday and still with Straylight Run released a solo project, Height, last year and apparently it’s not emo. <All Things Go>

Journalist, Jonathan M. Katz, was in Haiti (Port-au-Prince no less) when the earthquake struck. <Yahoo!>

A pack-in-a-pack-in-a-pack? Good thing it’s only a basketball card thing so far. <Shot Not Taken>

A New York Jets fan arrested while San Diego Chargers fans insist the police need to just leave the man alone. <Y! Shutdown Corner>

Many military vets are not getting their end of the GI bill and suffering for it. I’m talking living out of their cars suffering. <KHOU>

Johnny Cash wasn’t the last to have a life-changing religious experience at Nickajack Cave.

Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda gave the biggest donation in the history of donations to a single cause. $10 billion to develop vaccines for the world’s poorest countries. <CNN Money>

U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, was not at all a fan of President Obama’s State of the Union Speech. Was anyone? <Conroe Courier>

Long-time pinch-hitter Dave Hansen seems to have been quite the stand-up guy. <Baseball Analysts>

Old, but check out this picture. Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates Jr., being helped down the stairs by none other than his nemesis, Sgt. James Crowley, while Obama continue on, blissfully unaware. <Pesky Emotional Republican>

Texas Governor candidate, Farouk Shami, can’t name the state’s comptroller, attorney general or his own representatives. Seriously, I’ve met the guy. I know his general story. At what point is he qualified to be the Governor of Texas? <Houston Chronicle>

Virginia’s Caressa Cameron won the 2010 Miss America Pageant and looked good doing it. <amr2you>

Miss America, Caress Cameron, bikini

So hopefully you’ll find something interesting in that link dump. And hopefully that something won’t simply be Caress Cameron in a bikini.
