VY till I die

Ed. Note: This is a cross-post from my UT Sports blog Hash Marks.

Boy, is VY having a tough time of it. I’ll admit, when I heard he left the season opener with an injury, part of me hoped it would keep him out a few weeks so he could take a deep breath and reset. Little did I know a media manifested mental meltdown was in the works. But sure enough, next thing you know Jeff Fisher is calling the cops to hunt him down and a crisis negotiator tags along just in case.
Now speculation is rampant. Is he losing it? Does he want to play football? Is he a coddled mamma’s boy?
I know media members have to speculate to some degree. Columnists wouldn’t be worth their salt if they don’t offer insight, ideas and possibilities. But when you’re coming out with theories on the mental health of an individual, you’re moving on to some shaky ground. (more…)

Thank You Art Pennington

I just got something very unexpected in the mail. An envelope from Art Pennington with two autographed post cards and a hand signed letter. He must have gotten when I made a donation on pay pal, but I’ll be honest it was such a small donation that I do not feel like I deserve him taking the time or using the resources to send me what he did. However, that fact also make me appreciate it that much more. (more…)

Chalmers and Arthur missing out on needed education

How exactly is tossing Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur from the NBA’s rookie transition program supposed to help anything?

The former Jayhawks were discovered with marijuana and women in their hotel room and promptly kicked out of the program. Orientation week is all about how to handle the sudden fame and fortune these guys have found. They learn what’s expected from them off the court, and they learn how to succeed. Clearly, Chalmers and Arthur are just the kind of guys that need the indoctrination. But they’ve gotten kicked out just for proving that it’s necessary. What a typical, backward reaction. (more…)

Corresponding with the Houston Chronicle

I have 23 primary destinations on the Internet. The Houston Chronicle blogs page is one of them, thanks to Longhorn beat writer Joe Duarte’s UT sports blog. He’s a friend, and it’s a fine blog. Sometimes, I check out the other blogs, and a few days ago I read a Chonicle Reader’s blog on music.

It wasn’t especially notable, and I’ll only link to it so I don’t have to rehash the discussion in the comments section. As you’ll see, a reader is reprimanded for an analytical response to the blog post. Why? Because the reader didn’t discuss what the blogger wanted discussed.

And I quote: “Try to remember this blog is about music, not politics. I just don’t want the discussion devolving into something completely off topic. Thanks. – Jeff”

A Clemens Got Arrested

Roger Clemen’s son, Koby Clemens, got arrested along with two of his Salem Avalanche teammates, Mark Ori and Jimmy Goethals. Not many details have come out yet, but apparently they got in a fight in the parking lot of a place called Mac and Bob’s Restaurant. Clemens and Ori were just arrested for disorderly conduct. Goethals was arrested for assault and battery. (more…)
